On Thanksgiving I started yet another project. This one is from Jill Oxton’s Cross-Stitch and is the first thing I’ve stitched from this lovely magazine. I am stitching this for my friend Aimee who visited New Zealand a few years ago. Her birthday is in August, so I am going to aim to have it done for her by then.

Yesterday I sent out two of my TW WIPS for adoption – my StoryTeller and Carousel. I’ve spent a few months thinking about this and I have lost interest in them. So, better for someone else to have them and continue the stitching. They’re going to good people
Today, I plan on working on another TW – I think Noah’s Ark…

Well, hopefully anyway! in lieu of repeating everything here, let me just refer you to my post on the TW Board. — however, the short version – I’m applying for a PhD program at the University of Pittsburgh in – the program is for Library & Information Science. So, I have been all absorbed in that for the past few days
Stitching wise though I have been working on TW’s Birth Announcement. I’ll scan in a picture of it and post it later. I didn’t do a lot, but enough that I feel like I’ve gotten something accomplished.
Did I mention that I was on the South Beach Diet? Well, Turkey Day makes two weeks and I have lost approximately 7 lbs! I’ll have to weigh myself again in the morning, but I’m happy to have even that. It’s not very hard at all and I have been combining it with exercise. If you care at all, I started a separate log for my weight loss so i can journal my progress. I’ve got over 100 lbs to lose folks!

Got in a lot more stitching today! Stitche 8 hours on Yew Tree Cottage. It feels good to see the cottage emerging. I sometimes have difficulty with this piece because the fabric is so tightly woven, but it’s coming out just fine.

I think my body chemistry must be changing since being on the south beach diet. In the past two days I have rusted two needles — and these are Piecemakers, which in the past year I’ve been using this brand, I’ve never had a problem with them rusting. Is it possible?? well, I’ll use a new needle tomorrow night and see what happens.
Tomorrow I’ll be moving on to something else. I’m not sure what yet, so you’ll just have to stay tuned.

Since my last update, the stitching that I have done has continued to be on the geisha. So, since the last picture I have put in another 15 hours. Here is a scan of the portion of it I’ve been focusing the most on.

I am going to stitch on something else today – though I haven’t decided what yet.
I also worked more on my magazine database yesterday – adding about 6 magazines.

It turns out that I did not go out of town this weekend. I decided for a number of reasons that I should stay home, so I’ll have to try and plan to meet the group of ladies next year in Pigeon Forge.
I did however, get in about 10 hours of stitching on my Sue Page geisha girl. Saturday I didn’t start until late as I was feeling very restless.. I could hardly sit still to stitch! but, i got my act together finally and stitched away! Here’s my latest progress pic:

I will continue to work on her this evening some as well.

No stitching news tonite as I have not been stitching. What has been going on with me though is that I started the South Beach Diet today. There is a group of us doing it at work so we can keep each other motivated. I’m excited about the prospects of it, but I’ve told myself that I’ll do Phase I for three weeks and see where I stand.
So far though, so good. At the end of my first day I feel like I’ve eaten A LOT of food – but I’ve only had 1100 calories today, and only 8% of my caloric intake has been from carbohydrates. I’ll report on my progress again in a week and let everyone know how I’m doing. I’m not weighing myself as I have a pretty good idea how much I weigh and I don’t want the temptation of weighing everyday either. My “measure” will be how the bridesmaid dress that I wore in my friend Sara’s wedding will fit me at the end of the three weeks — i’ll see if it fits any better
As for stitching I have a trip coming up this weekend! I’ll be going to Pigeon Forge, TN for a weekend stitch-fest with some ladies from TN & NC. I have not been to Pigeon Forge and I’m looking forward not only to the scenery, but to some dedicated stitching time too!

I just returned back from my trip to DC and had a very good time. I was there for the Association of American Medical Colleges annual conference. This was my first time attending the conference and it was educational. I did however, manage to get some time in to do some sightseeing. I lived in DC for a year before moving to Nashville, but you know how you never do the touristy stuff when you live somewhere!
So, this morning, I went to the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial and the National Gallery of Art before flying out this afternoon. Today was a very appropriate and moving day to be at the Veteran’s Memorial being Veteran’s Day. I was very moved by the solidarity shown from all the vets who were there – greeting each other, and also remembering those they served with, family members etc.
I had managed to spend one hour at the National Gallery of Art on Sunday looking at some of the works in awe. I loved the Italian and Spanish paintings and sculptures that I saw. My favorite piece though, was Daniel in the Lion’s Den by Sir Peter Paul Rubens. To see this piece in person is amazing! the faces on the lions look so realistic!
I really like religious art. One of my majors in college was religion and through one class in particular started to get into the art aspect of it. So, many of my favorites at the National Gallery were the religious pieces. it was great! I even got to see the only Leonardi Da Vinci piece that is currently in America – Ginevra de’ Benci. I must get back to DC!
While in DC I also bought a book and started reading it – a real physical book! It’s on the sidebar and I’m more than halfway through it now. I hope to finish it tonite. It’s very good.
Still reading?? All this rambling and nothing about stitching yet, so I guess I should address that
I stitched a little bit more on the Thai Dancer. I started off the trip a little frustrated because I was not liking my fabric choice at all! looking at the colors on it was not pleasant. But then after I thought about it, I realized that the reason I chose this color was because of the blues and purples in this design. In the area that I chose to start, I’d been stitching oranges, pinks and browns. So, I decided to go ahead and start the blues and purples and then see if I liked it. So, that’s what I did. Worked on blues and purples some over the weekend and some today in the airport. And, after having those colors on, I do like it much better! So, I’ll keep my fabric choice

That’s about it. I think I’ve rambled enough now. I’m off to read some more!

As expected, I have not been stitching as much this week. But, I was such a bad girl tonite. I started a new project! When I arrived at my LNS tonite, I found a gift certificate from Kalonji waiting for me so I had to use it right?? So, I bought fabric and threads to start my first Pinn Stitch design – Manorah Thai Dancer. This is what it will look like when completed.
I could not stand the color of the fabric the picture is stitched on, so I changed it. I am stitching mine on Lavender Mist Jobelan. I know it’s not much, but here is my progress at just under 2 hours.

Today in the mail, I got one of the items on my wish list! Michelle S was kind enough to send me Alice In Wonderland by Lynn Nicoletti. This is going on my to-do list for 2004. Thanks Michelle!
On a side note, I am going on a very unexpected business trip to DC this weekend, so I shall be taking my Thai Dancer with me. I was planning on working on TW’s Birth Announcment this weekend, but given where I am at with that WIP, it will not travel too well.
I will try and post again before I leave. If I don’t make it, I’ll post again when I get back on Tuesday. Happy stitching.

And even after the frogging fiasco I had with NS in my last post, the frogs continued on Friday night and Saturday morning! But, I finally got it right, so I’m happy to report that I stitched another 10 hours on Noahs Sub.

Again, some issues going on with the scanner, but you can see I got the outline of all the potholes!
In other stitching related news…
Another stash report! I got six back issues of the World of Cross Stitching in today. I got them off Ebay several weeks ago. And, in a trade, I got a back issue of the Cross Stitcher (US). More mags for the index.
Tonite, I have not been stitching. I indexed three magazines and hope to get a couple of more in before i go to bed. I have also been working on the TWBB Directory I put together. I’ve had lots of people emailing me to add their information. So, for you TWBB folks – check it out
That’s about it for me. I don’t anticipate any more stitching for a couple of days as I want to catch up with some of my websites. Until then, I’ll be stitching vicariously through everyone else.
