We had such a wonderful weekend this past weekend! Kaleya spent the weekend with my friend Sandi so that Kalonji and I could have a weekend to ourselves. We did not do much of anything – saw Star Wars and Unleashed at the movies, but it was very nice to be able to focus on just each other for a few days. And, Kaleya had a blast this weekend with Sandi and her family. Sandi has a one year old grandson and they played together all weekend.

Then, I actually got in some good stitching time over the weekend too. I continue to work on Chinese Blessing Gods, so here is my latest picture. I think it’s coming along well. I am in the process now of looking for the Eight Immortals design also by Pinn Stitch b/c I want to start that after I finish this one.

I updated our website today! I was already getting tired of the last template I had, I only used it for a few months. We will see how long this template lasts before I get bored with it. I am going for the minimalist look this time. I do have to figure out how to make the top graphic look better and am awaiting response from the guy who designed the template to see if he can help me out.

I have also been adding more magazines to my magazine database. In the past few days I’ve added three issues of The World of Cross-Stitching. There are some lovely designs in these that I want to stitch – I especially like this Jewel of the East design by Sue Page.

I am such a geek! Last week, I finally decided to edit the entry for “Cross-Stitch” in Wikipedia. If you are not familiar with Wikipedia, it is an online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. The idea behind it is that if you care enough to contribute, then you probably know what you are talking about. Naturally, there are many checks & balances in place to help ensure the information is accurate and I think it is a wonderful project. I find myself going to Wikipedia now if I need to know anything!

But, in the entry for “Cross Stitch” I added a tidbit of historical information and put in there that the oldest known sampler in the US is the one done my Loara Standish. I have seen the sampler itself while on a trip to Cape Cod two years ago and bought the reproduction kit to stitch. That kit cost me $100 and sometimes I wonder if I’ll even ever get to stitch it!

In my own stitching news I still have not been doing much stitching. Kalonji and I are mkaing a concerted effort to see each other every weekend until I move to Memphis, so that gives me less time to stitch, but I’m not complaining! I am currently working on my Chinese Blessing Gods, so I’ll try and get a new picture up in the next week.

Kaleya is doing well, she’s 7 months now. She’s had a bad cough lately, so on Monday the pediatrician gave her an albuterol treatment and prescribedian inhaler until she gets to feeling better. It seems to be helping, but I’ll just watch her closely over the next several days.

Oooh — I’ve been tagged by a doodle-head! Otherwise I may not have posted so soon :-)

Choose 5 and complete the sentence…

If I could be a scientist . . .
If I could be a farmer . . .
If I could be a musician . . .
If I could be a doctor . . .
If I could be a painter . . .
If I could be a gardener . . .
If I could be a missionary . . .
If I could be a chef . . .
If I could be an architect . . .
If I could be a linguist . . .
If I could be a psychologist . . .
If I could be a librarian . . .
If I could be an athlete . . .
If I could be a lawyer . . .
If I could be an inn-keeper . . .
If I could be a professor . . .
If I could be a writer . . .
If I could be a llama-rider . . .
If I could be a bonnie pirate . . .
If I could be an astronaut . . .
If I could be a world famous blogger . . .
If I could be a justice on any one court in the world . . .
If I could be married to any current famous political figure . . .

If I could be a librarian..
..yeah, i chose the obvious one first – I am a librarian! Okay, let me say this then. If I could have the “dream” library job, I’d be in a medical library in Tahiti — that way, after work, I could go home and stitch on the beautiful beaches there.

If I could be a musician…
..I’d be the world’s top piano player. I am absolutely enthralled at the idea of playing piano and have always fooled around with keyboards since I was young. When I moved to Nashville 5 years ago, I even took piano lessons for a couple of months. But you know what? I didn’t want to practice. You get ONE guess at what I was ending up spending my time doing instead of practicing the piano. So, I quit.

If I could be a professor..
..I’d teach Web stuff and I’d figure out how to work cross-stitching into all my student’s assignments. We’d create so many cross-stitch related websites it would be insane.

If I could be an inn-keeper…
..my inn would be on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate! I absolutely LOVE that house!

And, if I could be married to any current political figure..
..I’d still be married to Kalonji. He may not be famous, but that man can talk politics for days! :-)

So, I guess it’s my turn to tag some people. I’m going to pick Debi, Mindy, and Froggie.

And, in other news.. I’m off to Memphis for the weekend. We are going to look at an apartment complex tomorrow.

Yes, I am still here. It’s been almost three weeks since my last post and my life has been shaken so much in that time frame. I won’t go into the unpleasant details, but there is light at the end of every tunnel right and I believe I have found my light.

I have major news! I have decided to stay at home with Kaleya for the upcoming future. I will be moving to Memphis where Kalonji is and we will actually be a “real” family for the first time since we’ve met (we’ve never really lived together). I am extremely fortunate to have a wonderful, caring supervisor as she has agreed to let me work “virtually” from Memphis for about the next year. I honestly don’t think I could ask for a more perfect situation! I’ll be relocating at the end of July – watch out Memphis! Then, at the end of a year, we will re-evaluate and see where life takes us – we may even end up back in Nashville :-)

Stitching wise, I have not done very much either. And now that I have packing to start thinking about, I am not sure I’ll get much done in the forseeable future either – so don’t expect too many stitching updates between now and the end of summer. And, even though I’ll be home with Kaleya, I will still be very busy, but I a m very much looking forward to this quality time with my family.

And for those interested in pictures, check out the latest additions to the gallery. This past weekend we went to visit the boys and had a great time. Kamau, the oldest, turned 10 last week, my mother-in-law’s birthday was Saturday and then of course it was Mother’s Day. I also did Kaleya’s hair for the first time tonite in something other than an afro. (Be sure to click on the links that say Mother’s Day 2005 and 1st Hairstyle).
