Family Reunion Time!
It’s family reunion weekend. We are in NC right now for my stepmother’s family reunion. It started tonight with a meet and greet session and festivities continue tomorrow with breakfast, a picnic in the afternoon and a dinner/dance in the evening.
My father, Kelli & Kaleya

I am amassing quite the library for Kaleya; it started with my boss giving me many books that her daughter has outgrown, plus, my mother is now collecting books on her behalf and sending them to us. My instructions to my mother: pretty, colorful pictures.
Tonight, I read one of the books, The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base. It was a great read! I saw one of Graeme’s other books at the bookstore a couple of months ago and loved his art. It actually reminded me of another book I used to read when I was younger, about 12 years old, but I can’t remember the name of that book. It too was a mystery book, treasure hunt but it had a real prize buried somewhere and I think it involved bees. I’ve got to find that now!

Finally… my cross-stitch picture! I was able to stitch on her quite a bit last weekend. I think I may be able to get in several more hours tomorrow. This is the only project I’ve stitched on in like a year, but it had been about six months I think since I last touched it.

Still no cross-stitch picture, but I’ll try to get it up soon!
But, we have cake pictures! My birthday cake and Kaleya helping me cut it. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!

July is birthday season around here. Yesterday was my stepson’s 9th birthday. We went to Alabama to visit Kalonji’s family and had a small celebration for him there. I learned of a new tradition too. Apparently, if you pin money on you with a safety pin, people know it’s your birthday and give you money. Jihad collected over $50 yesterday! Too funny! Of course I have pictures up, start here and then click the forward icon to see more pics. The boys found a stray cat that they tried to keep and name Oreo, and Kaleya got her hair cornrowed by her cousin.
And, today is my birthday! Whippee! I’m all of 32 years young.
Today is also my stepfather’s birthday. Next week is my mother’s birthday and then there are about five of us at work who have had birthdays these beginning days of July.

To my stitching buddies…
I am stitching again! I stitched some last night and plan to do more this weekend. Will upload a picture later.
But, I also have an idea. Since Kaleya was born, I’ve mulled over what to do about the gallery site and xsmagdb.com. I’ve left them up as is for those that still use them, but they are no longer scalable for me. So, I’m drumming up an idea for a way to rework them but make them more manageable. Stay tuned. No promises yet, but I’m thinking of options…

We interrupt this blog for a geek post – I made my first mashup today! Well, maybe you can’t call it a mashup proper, but I was able to make a Google Map using my own data. I’m doing an experiment for a lookup tool that I think would have most benefit if the subject of the map could be looked up geographically. I won’t give all the boring details, but the site I used is MapBuilder.net. Cool. i will share if I decide to move forward with it.
