Over the weekend, Kaleya showed me one of the routines they have her class do in PE class at school. I thought it was great! Obviously a way of doing some strength-training with the kids. Kaleya is already pretty strong, but one-armed pushups?? Puts me to shame
O
One week, Jihad even came home and said they were doing a Michael Jackson routine as a whole grade exercise at his school. How cool. Nothing like PE was when I was young.
Over the weekend we held a birthday party for Kaleya’s 6th birthday and had a fabulous time! Despite the fact that we just moved into our new place and there were boxes around, we still made it work. Having no living room furniture yet worked to our advantage so we could set up tables and chairs for everyone.
Throughout the course of the afternoon we had about 10 kids and 10 adults there and we were so glad everyone came out. Kaleya and her pals ran around mostly among the rooms upstairs, watched tv, ate cake, played games and just had fun being kids. Her true birthday was last weekend on October 16th, so on that day, she had one of her very good friends with her
and they had a great time playing with Kaleya’s new dollhouse
For yesterday’s party, the cake was a Princess & the Frog cake — right now one of Kaleya’s favorite movies – though, from the expression of her face in this photo you wouldn’t quite know it
But, she perked back up – really got into opening the presents and we enjoyed getting to hang out with her and her friends.
Happy 6th Birthday Kaleya!!!! Can’t wait to do it again next year
Here it is Sunday and I find myself terribly behind in posting our family news of the week. It’s been focused largely on both of the kids and their teeth.
Last weekend Jihad was complaining of tooth pain, and I know from experience that is some of the most horrific pain to have, so we took him to the dentist on Monday. Follow-up with an orthodontist on Thursday resulted in his lower lingual bar getting removed. He was ecstatic! Now, the visit to the orthodontist was an experience in and of itself.
Free advertisement here for Dr. Gluck – his office staff was incredibly friendly, they related well with Jihad and showed a genuine interest in him as a person, and they didn’t even charge us for the check or the removal of his lingual bar! Now, Jihad has one more baby tooth to come out and when that is out Dr. Gluck wants him back in for braces.
Jihad looks through a scrapbook of testimonials for Dr. Gluck
Then, on Thursday night, Kaleya lost one of her front teeth – she was excited! She’d been working it out for a few days and so I knew it was going to happen soon. Just now as I write this post, she came in to tell me the one next to it is also loose. Here comes anot
her visit from the tooth fairy
It’s August and the start of a new school year! Today was the first day of school for the Kaleya & Jihad. Of course, Jihad’s well experienced in this, but this is Kaleya’s first year as she is entering kindergarten. How quickly they grow up. Of course I had to take a few pictures this morning

who has school spirit? (more like school rocker spirit?)
It’s official. July 1 was my first day back as a full-time employee at work now that I’ve completed my degree. I re-joined our team (Knowledge Management) as the Associate Director for Research. These are big shoes to fill so I’ll have to work diligently to make sure I do my absolute best!
In other news, last weekend we took Kaleya to a “bring your friend” day at a dojo and while she was a little timid at first, she warmed up to it. You go girl!
at karate class in June. big brother accompanied her on the mat to help with her nervousness.
Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you are enjoying your holidays. Let me go back in time by sharing this video of Kaleya during her first Christmas season when she was 2 months old. My camera at the time only did video w/o sound and the quality is not the best, but it is too cute!
Today, I took the kids to our daycare provider’s Christmas party and we had a lot of fun! Kaleya & Jihad seemed to really enjoy themselves, even though Kaleya was afraid of Santa!
Here is Kaleya w/ her bestie and you can link from here to the rest of the photos by clicking on the link at the bottom that says “December 2009″
