State of Tennessee, Davidson County, For and in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars to me in hand paid by Nelson Merry for the use and benefit of the Corporation of the City of Nashville the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged I Benj. Clements agent & Superintendent of the Nashville Cemetery by virtue of the authority in me vested have bargained and sold & by these presents doth convey to him the said Nelson Merry a colored man his heirs & assigns forever a certain lot or piece of ground lying & being in the Nashville Cemetery.

Situate on the south side of Centrell (Central) avenue & on the west side of Cedar avenue.

Beginning at a stake at the south side of Centrell avenue being McDaniels north west corner of his lot running thence south with his line forty feet to a stake his south west corner thence west ten feet to a stake thence north forty feet to a stake at the south side of Centrell avenue 7 thence east with the same ten feet to the beginning.
Containing four hundred feet ______ measure at five cents per foot in all $20.00.

To have and to hold to him the said Nelson Merry his heirs & assigns forever a lot piece or parcel of ground in the Nashville City Cemetery for the special use & purpose of a burying ground & for no other use purpose or occupancy whatever.

Given under my hand & seal at office in the City of Nashville. March 22, 1850
