Mr. Tom KENNEDY celebrated his twenty-first birthday last night with an oyster roast.  A number of friends were present to assist in the jollification.  Every one had a royal good time and wished him many more such happy birthdays.

Midwife Birth Records from 1908-1939

Via Eastman’s Genealogy Newsletter,  I learned of the following story on TampaBay.com.  John Barry reports on the work being done to create an online index of the meticulously kept birth records of Tampa midwife Maria Messina Greco.   From the article:

The prolific midwife had birthed up to six babies a day from 1907 to 1939. On each page, she documented who the parents were, where they came from, how many other children they had, where they lived and how they earned their living.

A Tampa-area genealogist, Dan Perez, was given the set of notebooks by a cousin-in-law of Maria’s and Dan subsequently donated them to Marilyn Figueredo, editor of Tampa’s Cigar City magazine.  After her passing, they went to her partner, Vienna Fuente, and have been transcribed by Angelo Lorenzo.

The records are not yet available online, but once we find out when they will be available, we will make sure to link to them from the Vitals page.  What a unique resource to have access to!  In the meantime, if you are near a LDS Family History Center some of them have been microfilmed and can be accessed via their collections.
