Cleaning Your Corsets

In case you need help next time you are cleaning a corset, the December 2, 1898 issue of the Roanoke Beacon offers the following in the Hints for Housewives column.
Cleaning Corsets
“To clean corsets take out the steel at front and sides and scrub thoroughly with tepid or cold lather of white castile soap, using a very small scrubbing brush. Do not lay them in water. When quite clan let cold water run on them freely from the spigot to rinse out the soap thoroughly. Dry without ironing (after pulling lenthwise until they are straight and shapely) in a cool place.”
Who knew?
